Mark Fast's decision to use a mixture of both size zero models and size 12+ models has evoked quite a few mixed opinions be it about the fit of the clothing to the notion that Fast is simply trying to conjure up some publicity. An articale in the Daily Telegraph shows a quote from Amanda May (the creative director) stating “We wanted women to know they don’t have to be a size zero to wear a Mark Fast dress- curvier women can look even better in one. We wanted women to know they don’t have to be a size zero to wear a Mark Fast dress- curvier women can look even better in one.”
The debate over size zero models has been alive for years now with efforts from designers to provide food and nourishment to models backstage of shows. Now that a designer finally uses models that don't conform to the skinny typology of a runway model, he is accused of having selfish and bad intentions. Well to combat this, I think critics and admirers should not talk about his "courageous" choice of models (apparently using a normal sized woman is an act of courage) but we should all talk about his reasoning of being at London Fashion Week, his clothing!
Fast showed a collection of slashes, holes and all-round edgy collection London is all about. The slashed t-shirt design has become greatly popular over the last month, I am currently creating a DIY version myself after having seen a completed one in Zara the other day. I tell you now, it is one lengthy process.
Once you get over his models, his range of designs is immense. He shows slashes, body-con, tiers/ruffles, dresses, crops, skirts, feathers, deep pinks, and wonderful footwear.
Hats off to this designer for a wonderful collection!
