Confuzzled!

Designer collaborations became common practice in 2009 with too many to list. Jimmy Choo's collection for H&M was just one of the many that made moshes of people queuing outside stores, waiting for doors to open followed by a flurry of hair grabbing and garment snatching. Jimmy Choo declared to further encourage such behaviour with a new collaboration, this time I would say on a bit more random note, but still, quite intriguing. The notorious shoe designer has announced to collaborate with UGG Australia. With a relatively heftier price tags, the collaboration will consist of five different styles in a range of colours priced between £495 - £695. The style of the shoes is yet to be announced, will they be fluffy furry stilettos? Only time will tell....

A wintery summer

I know I've been M.I.A for about a week now, and I've completely lost my way in the world of blogdom and made it onto the wrong side of the road admiringly watching all the fashion bloggers marching by tutting at my lack of writing but my oh my are deadlines all over me, it aint no joke when they say 3rd year's a bitch. Well I aim to keep my posts a tad less sporadic so that this ickle page of mine doesn't fall back into a distant memory...

My slip of the word "marching" was a slight ploy to get me to this point where I can neatly slide my post in all about shoes, shoes, shoes. These shoes are the works of Nicholas Kirkwood. This crafty man has become known for his collaborations on the runways. What has caught my eyes is his play on the Summer. On one hand, Kirkwood gives us the bright, pop-colours we all embrace when a twinkle of sunlight begins. Yet, somehow Kirkwood has flipped the script by showing us summer can still show off the studs and metallics we'e all undoubtedly invested in this season with his almost robotic Rodarte wonders. Not another Burberry boot!

I know it seems I flick through every high-street retailer in sight in hopes of finding more Burberry-esque boots but this River Island gem actually came looking for me... With the chunky heel, buckles and folded over warmth, my search can come to a much-overdue end...

Spend spend spend

The wonderful people at Topshop decided to give us poor Manchester students a break offering a nifty 20% off of EVERYTHING in the store! Two female dj's kept us kids buzzing whilst my arms were weighing me down more and more from the mountain of clothing I was accumulating. Walking around the store I came to the conclusion that students dress bloody well with such a vast array of styles. Through the mayhem I decided best not stop these mission shoppers for a snap but I am definitely carrying my camera around for some street style shots, I think I shall call it Following Cam?
There was one outfit I'm still regretting not snapping so I'll do the next best thing and attempt to describe it. A romantic, sheer peach, long sleeved top with a punk t-shirt rolled into a crop top, messy hair, leggings and studded boots - probably one of things you had to have seen to appreciate but just the right of femininity with edge that I like so much.
At the end of it, to my despair, I did not purchase a mountain's worth of clothes but I did get these amazing pair of "April" boots. They're really reminiscent of those Acne wedges I blagged on about in a previous post and have the wedge of the Ashish boots without the crazy-factor built in (I haven't given up on my search for them in my size though)

Higher Please

Thigh high boots have become the current craze for all trend followers this season and for the first time are not associated with shall I say those who are dubbed with negative tags of a sexual nature..? (keeping it PC over here). The trend was seen all over the catwalks during last season's fashion shows. One designer pushing this boundary as high as she can is Miuccua Prada.
Prada's new Waders are dubbed as thigh-high wellies/fishing boots with some sporting matching leather garter-style hold ups.

It was only a matter of time until the editors out there played on the water-proof nature of these boots and the Chinese did just this with a fishing themed editorial in the Chinese Vogue October 2009 issue. Who would have thought a fishing expedition could hold such beauty? Checklist for next fishing trip: Frizzy hair, trench coats and thigh highs...

Although the boots look great on the models, controversy arose concerning the wearability of these baggy, ultra-high leg creations for us regular, not so skinny and tall people. Sigh.
However, a very fashion-forward passer by was photographed wearing these boots with the greatest of ease. Although my bank card cannot lead to me a Prada store, I have however just purchased a pair of thigh highs and will be showing some outfits in the near future.

Reader's Request

I received an e-mail the other day with the following request:
Hey Dana,
I think it's about time I ditch the UGGs but I need an alternative before I do.
I'm looking for a casual pair but obviously nicer than UGGS that I can buy on a budget (max £60 odd) but keep in mind my legs are quite skinny so I can't really pull off anything chunky.
Thank you!xxxx

I have searched far and wide using the internet and my fave high street stores that are appropriate for this reader's request. I must say it's slim-pickings out there, many high-street stores are selling boots in the £70-£80 bracket, but do not fret, I have compiled a selection of great boots to suit your needs. I hope these aid your quest for the perfect boot! (click to enlarge)

Help me: these shoes are seducing me

Louis Vuitton has named these pumps 'Sensual Pumps'. Featuring their engraved logo on the sole and the intoxicating colours of this shot, I actually feel as if these shoes are trying to seduce me.
I MUSTN'T GIVE IN!

My New Babies

As soon as these angelic python Louboutin's hit my faux fur coat on my bed my camera magically landed in hand, turned on and began snapping.
It felt only polite to respect my camera's wishes and share its muse.

Kurt Geiger

So I know I'm a little late to be mentioning this as the issue is about to be taken off the stands but what the hell, when inspiration strikes...
Flicking through Vogue's August catwalk report, I find myself unable to tear my eyes away from the Kurt Geiger shoot.
A large factor for this is most likely because of the coloured suitcases reminding me that I can start packing tomorrow for my wonderful month in the sun! But ofcourse there are other, more post-worthy reasons.
What I love about this shoot is that the suitcases, although of such large sizes and unlikely colours, are not the focal point of the shoot. The shoes the model is wearing even when not placed at the forefront of the shot immediately capture your gaze.
I must note that I have never really been a follower of Kurt Geiger shoes nor did I think they had especially individual designs. Boy how wrong was I??
A double paged shot reads the caption "Spoilt For Choice" and this is no lie. With this innovative display of shoes and the matching advertorials, Kurt Geiger have made a definite 180 to my opinions.
Hats of to Kurt Geiger!
